Ron Cameron-Lewis - Consulting Director
Ron has directed three shows for Unionville Theatre Company - Fame (1997), The King and I (2004) and Cats (2011). He has returned to break the 7-year cycle as "Consulting Director" as UTC re-stages Fame.
Ron taught acting and directed shows for 37 years at Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Oakville - both for Music Theatre Performance and Sheridan's joint program with UTM in Theatre and Drama Studies. Sheridan appointed him Professor Emeritus following his retirement in December 2009.
Ron has directed nearly 100 plays and musicals across the country. He has adjudicated well over 2,000 productions throughout Ontario as well as in the USA, and has taught 28 new adjudicators during the last 18 months - in conjunction with Theatre Ontario Festivals and the American Association of Community Theatres at its national festival in Rochester, NY.
He is one of the founders of the newly-launched Theatre Starts Inc. which was formed to develop and promote new voices in theatre. Ron has also worked in media, serving as text coach for the 2009 Gemini-award winning production of "Othello" for CBC TV and radio. He also coaches emerging photojournalists, media executives and corporate leaders.
In 2010, Ron was appointed International Associate Faculty at the Institute of Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice where he works as communications consultant for the Leadership Development Initiative. He coaches palliative care physicians from 22 countries at regular conferences in San Diego and via Skype in a multi-year project funded by the National Cancer Institute, Open Societies Institute, and the Diana, Princess of Wales Trust Fund. He is also editing the curriculum from these international conferences. Ron's textbook "Acting Skills for Life" is in its fourth printing with The Dundurn Group. He received the President's Award of Excellence at Sheridan, and was awarded a Star in the Sheridan Walk of Fame for his "ongoing commitment and philanthropic contributions." Ron also received the 2004 Maggie Bassett Award from Theatre Ontario for his contribution to theatre in Ontario.
